The reason I went Freelance was :- I felt that I had gained enough experience and contacts through 20 years in the business to set up on my own. I also wanted more flexibility and variety with the aim of (eventually) trying to and get a better work-life balance. You only get one shot in life and I didn't want to have any regrets about not at least trying something on my own.
Since going Freelance I have :- expanded my experience of AV and production by project managing four big stands for SMART AV at ICE London.I have also been helping Natural Green Creative Spaces with business development as well as some private plant hire through my own business - Vista Events.
I make a genuine difference to my clients business by :- listening to what clients actually want to achieve from a project and working in a collaborative way by fully embedding myself in the team both in the pre-planning stages and on-site.
My key skill sets are :- planning, attention to detail, problem solving, client management. Being flexible and adaptable are key. Also trying to have some fun - I try to go about my business with a smile on my face.
Here's what two clients say about what I do :-
We brought Dan on to the team to support us in the delivery of a number of large scale exhibition stands at ICE 2020, in the capacity of Project Manager. He integrated seamlessly with both our clients, sales team and operations team from day 1. His industry experience and knowledge of the venue were second to none, allowing him to smooth out any challenges the team came across along the way. We look forward to working with Dan on the next project soon!

I'm filling my days on lock down with :- a lot of gardening, painting and exercise. I've also been helping out with the home schooling. I'm not good at sitting around doing nothing so need to keep busy! I have also been keeping in regular contact with friends and colleagues in the industry and trying to stay positive. Once the realisation hit that that events wouldn't be happening again for a long time, I have now turned my attention to trying to get a summer job.
Post Lockdown, the thing I am most looking forward to is :- seeing friends, family and doing normal things like going to the pub or a gig. Not sure when that will be allowed though but to get back to some kind of normality would be amazing. I have enjoyed lockdown though - spending more time at home with the family has been so precious.
